Windsurfing: Esso Beach Wind Direction: WNW Wind Stength: F5 Surf / Sea State: Chop Air Temperature: 20 degrees Sea Temperature: OK Weather: Sun/Cloud Max Speed: Distance Covered:
With the wind direction basically W with a tendency to NW it really had to
be Esso or Hill Head and Esso is nearer so it got the thumbs up. The car
park was stuffed and chaotic, with quite a lot of all levels on the
water.
I arrived before the lagoon had started filling and hung around to see what
the wind was doing. A number of others rigged 6.5s but I was hoping for a
5.5 day. Eventually as the wind seemed to have picked up a notch I went for
the 5.5 and was a bit underpowered at first. Then it kicked in and I was
stacked for the first hour or so. The wind against tide was kicking up some
fierce chop over the shallows which made for some good fun but gybing
required a lot of faith, in the strong gusts. Gradually the wind backed off
a bit and I got more comfortable just cruising, hopping and honing the
gybes. Came in about 5.30 after more than 4 hours. A cracking day.
